SIERRA NEVADA LIMITE
Sierra Nevada Límite started out in 2003 as a MTB marathon seeking to push cycling enthusiasts to their ‘limit’.
And this is exactly what we did. The 100km route passed through the “slopes of the Sierra Nevada” with nearly 3000 metres of ascent gradient, taking in the stunning landscapes of the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada National Park. Although only 200 cyclists participated in Límite’s first edition, word travelled fast and in following years the event quickly filled its 1000 places.
However, the condition of the trails used for the event and certain restrictions within the National Park provoked a case of “death by success” in 2008, and Sierra Nevada Límite was reborn as a road race.
That same year, Pepe López Chirosa and Cayetano Labella of the Pinos Genil Cycling Club decided to pass us the baton for the organisation of the Cycling Ascent of the Veleta.
Starting over from scratch
In 2009 we decided to start over from scratch. We’ve never lost our motivation to offer cyclists the opportunity to get to know the wonders and contrasts of Granada and the Sierra Nevada.
And again, this is exactly what we achieved. By combining two events in one single weekend we were once again able to take cycling enthusiasts to “the limit”.
Sierra Nevada Límite forms part of the Union Cycliste Internationale’s (UCI) International Circuit. Our aim is to offer you a unique experience of the highest quality in a route combining both history and the high mountains.
The Cycling Ascent of the Veleta has already celebrated over 25 editions. Offering you a challenge alongside your group or club-mates, the route takes in the highest road in Europe, reaching an altitude of almost 3200 metres.
An undeniable challenge, you can choose to participate in either one or both days, racking up more than 6000 metres of ascent gradient in just one weekend.
To help you rise to the challenge, you’ll have the comprehensive support of a team dedicated to encouraging you, to suppling you with food and drink and above all, to your safety, allowing you to focus solely on the joy of pedaling through the magnificent landscapes of Granada and the Sierra Nevada.
2020, a new challenge against COVID-19
And right now, the only thing we can tell you is that we are still waiting. Above all, we are still waiting for the situation to return to normal and no more families will be affected by this terrible situation.
For our part, we have everything prepared to carry out as always a sustainable event and in this case, an event with all the security measures against COVID-19.
If the Andalusian Government finally gives free rein to the holding of cycling events, we are waiting for you on August 8.
Until then, registrations will remain closed.
